Every member of the PC Party can vote in the upcoming leadership election. This election presents all members with an opportunity to shape the party and we encourage everyone to participate in the process.

The election of the party’s next leader will occur through a delegated convention. Alberta’s 87 constituencies will send 15 delegates each to a convention in March. These delegates will gather and select the next leader of the party.

Delegates are chosen through a local election. Each constituency association will invite PC members that live in the area to attend a Delegate Selection Meeting, where the constituency’s delegates will be elected.

Only members are permitted to vote and as a member, you have the ability to decide which delegates attend the convention and which do not. At the Delegate Selection Meeting, delegates will indicate which leadership candidate they intend to support, allowing you to vote for delegates that support your preferred leadership candidate.

To vote for the next leader of the party, follow these steps:

Step 1 – Buy a membership. Only members are entitled to vote and furthermore, you must hold your membership for at least 14 days before the Delegate Selection Meeting. Click here to buy a membership now.

Step 2 – Confirm your constituency. If you are unsure, check which constituency you live in. Click here to find your constituency using the Elections Alberta search feature.

Step 3 – Check to see when your constituency association is having its Delegate Selection Meeting. Simply click here to view that information. If your constituency is not included in the list, that is because the meeting has not yet been scheduled. Continue to refer back for more information.

Step 4 – Attend the meeting. You must vote in person so be sure to mark the date, time and location of your constituency’s Delegate Selection Meeting and attend in person. After your membership has been verified at the door, you will be given a ballot.

Step 5 – Identify your delegates. During the meeting, the delegates will be given a few minutes to say which leadership candidate they plan on supporting. Identify those delegates who intend to vote for your preferred candidate and mark them down on your ballot.

After the voting is finished, the results will be announced. The elected delegates will then gather in Calgary, on March 18, 2017 and collectively vote for the next leader of the party.
